Working on a 1995 v4 60 degree 115. Service bulletin says to install newer style t stats with the white cone-shaped case around them, vs the old traditional ones. The issue Im having is it's not getting up to temp with old traditional t stats in it. I had a stiffer spring, and put it in one head and bingo... runs about 135 degrees steady now on hose. I want to do the same for the other (starboard) side as it's only at about 115 degrees. 95 degrees at the top. way too cool!
Questions: I had a pair of the newer cone-shaped ones at the shop, but they won't fit! The grommet in the head is too small. Do i need to remove the grommet and replace it with the new style seal? how do i get the grommet out if that's the case... it's really stuck in there... both sides!
Second question: why can't i just get a stiffer spring for the other head to seal it's old traditional t stat, and call it a day?
Thanks in advance for any help guys!
