I have a quick question...... When i change my lower unit oil, do I fill the lower unit up with oil by squirting it into the drain plug hole?? I have noticed that there are 3 screws in my lower unit. 2 on top one is the vent screw and i have no idea what the other one is. Then one on bottom which is my drain screw. So what screw do i loosen to put my oil in??

PS. I just bought the boat used and am currently waiting on a clymers manual!!

Drain old oil from the bottom plug....open the top vent plug and fill from the bottom hole until lube comes out of the top hole. Voila. You're done.

It sounds like your working on a merc. Fill from the bottom drain hole to the top hole closest to the front of the engine. It's probably marked on the side of the case what they are but I know the front is the level. the hole close to the center is either a vent (not oil level) or a flush.

It would be nice to know what motor you have. Merc did change the location and purpose of some holes over the years. What others have said is likely okay. Some of the newer motors have two holes up to which alow you to fill from the top, and still vent from the top. Typical practice is to fill from the bottom drain.

Here's a video that might help.
