I rebuilt my motor and still have poor compression on all cylinders. Could it be the original reed valves? Is it possible to replace reed valves surrounding crankshaft without removing rings from cylinders on Mercury tower of power L6? It's a tough job to get all pistons back into cylinders without breaking any rings when they are all connected to the crank... I'm not getting significant blow back thru any carbs, so may not need reed valves but just asking. What replacement reed valves are the best?

Agreed ---Reed valves have nothing to do with compression in the cylinders.-----There is no head gasket.----So your issue is the fit of pistons / rings in the cylinder bores.---What was done in your " rebuild " ?----Boring and honing and new O/S pistons / rings.----Or something else ?

As was stated reeds do not effect compression.
What did your "rebuild" entail?
The reeds can be changed without pulling the pistons but you have bigger fish to fry before worrying about the reeds.
Cheers,
