I don't worry too much about the shipping charges. As has already been said, factoring time, gas, materials and all that, most shipping charges are within reason. What I really look at is the total cost. If the total cost is low enough, I could care less which part is shipping and which part is item cost. I am just happy if I paid a significant amount less. Also, I only buy new items that are dramatically less in price than what I could get locally.

I regularly get nicked for extra shipping on stuff
but as long as I know it beforehand, I can bid
accordingly. only once did I get relly miffed.
was one of the "shipping will be figured after"
auctions and the guy wanted stupid money for one
little computer board.
I don't sell on ebay beacuse it is too much of
a hassle collecting/packing/shipping/tracking.
my wife sold a few DVD's once and the guy said
he never got them and she couldn't find the USPS
receipt, so we just refunded his money.
I have purchased almost 200 items over the years
some of them are high end servers I re-sell and I
have never been burned (knock on wood)

Don't forget as well, that sometimes, its just part of the marketing plan.
An example is that I've bought items (electronic) for as low as $1.00 and the shipping is a flat $8.95 when its really $2-$3.
I really don't care, because the item I bought was worth over $10, not $1.

I can't figure that one out either Rosco...
Charging shipping based on the purchase?
Who came up with that one?

The ones that really "miff" me is the ones that charge shipping "Per item"... In other words, even if the items all go in one box, they charge you separate shipping for each!
I've seen this on Ebay and shops on the internet.
UBid.com did this. I dunno if they still do.

A few bucks here and there...Not a big deal, but Like I said, just be honest about it.

Do your homework before you bid.
I always check the 'to my door' price of an item I'm looking at on EBay against one at a retail shop.
You'd be amazed how many people will pay more for an item you can get on an internet or local shop cheaper. Their loss I guess.

H.

I bought a dual engine control that was "brand new" for 100 bucks on ebay, and the shipping was 15, not too bad, considering it was coming from alaska

when it got here, it was 17.95 actual shipping, so the guy took a hit for three bucks

the unit was new looking but somehow it had a "ding" in one of the inner plates that kept the port gearbox from shifting

welllllllll ..... so it aint mint, sure looks like new, I tore it apart, hammered the ding flat, reassembled it and voila, perfection, a part that cost hundreds of dollars years ago, in my hot grubby paws for 115

gotta love ebay, takes a few chances, gets some good goods that you wouldnt have access before this wonderful dammed addiction called The Internet.

Bagged a few good wimmens on here too, lol, never did find one with a nice boat, but eh, one that at least likes boats is a good start, and she likes boats!

:D :D :D :D

CCrew - THe seller was self insuring the shipment.

I know it may not seem right, but unless the listing said it was insurance thru the USPS, well, its a technicality.

I knew of one seller that did this all the time.
He would offer the insurance, $1.30.
He mostly sells small items, mostly dvd's and cd's.
He shipped priority mail with delivery verification, so he knew if it was getting there.
He just pocketed the $1.30, about $200 a month - $2400 a year, and paid any claims out of his pocket. He found a way to increase his profits and had his own little insurance reserve just in case.

i sell alot of outboard motors on ebay, anyone who asks me for shipping cost is sent to www.freightquote.com and can look up what the shipping is going to cost and travel time, as for the pallets and packing, i figure that is the cost of doing business on ebay.

Whatever the cost of doing business happens to be, that cost is always the burden of the consumer.
