I have been converted!
Had boats with outboards
for the last few years & never had an inboard until now. Its an old 1987 searay seville b/r with a 165hp mercruiser....what a dream, so smooth yet quick. My point is that my last boat was a 20ft fishing boat with an 80hp merc o/b, used to do approx 5 gph at 17knts (approx 4400rpm)
with the sea ray I get approx 3-4gph at 25knts (3200 rpm) is it for real or is my fuel guage faulty, I know fuel may not be an issue for some of you in the states but over in good old blighty its an issue when its costing nearly the equivilent of $6 a bloody gallon.
I will definatley be sticking with inboards if this is what they are like, unless of course we go to war with another middle eastern country, in which case it will be 4 barrels (empty), some timber and a set of oars!

The fishing boat with the outboard was underpowered and sucking gas like a bandit working its asz off.The 165 searay is economical but i think you just got used to using too much fuel.Charlie

Under Powered?? it was rated to a maximum of 65hp, I had to strengthen the transom before fitting the 80hp.
Any way I am glad I have seen the light regarding inboards.
