Economy Yam.V Mer.

Thinking of getting a 97 Yam 225.
Was wondering about the economy and comparing the Yam to a Mer1999. 225.
Both are EFI both run good.
Pros and cons from every one who owns either.
Gonna post this in the Mercury section too.

I heard the Yams are a bit harder on gas.
Was wondering why as they use almost the same fuel system??

Thanks,J

Almost the same fuel system? They both use gas. Thats about it. Not too well versed in the Yamaha system but the Merc system is a proven design . Runs rich to prevent meltdowns since there is almost nothing for feedback to the computer to control mixture after the burn. Fuel economy will depend on your driving style and hull. I was getting about 4 MPG averaging 60 MPH or so with the checkmate and expect to do a little better with the new to me Allison

Jerry - Your Merc vs Yammy topics have been combined and moved to the Non-Repair Outboard Discussions forum. It should be easier to get comparisons when the topics together in one place.

Thats why I posted in the individual forums.
I NEVER go to the discussions area.
Most just hit the forum that pertains to their boat/motor and it's probem.

If I remember correctly, the Merc in question is a rebadged yammie.

Rule # 1 outboards suck gas, if your worried about fuel economy you may ought to take up golf.
