Hi

I have a reman balance shaft engine.Roller cam, edelbrock 2114 performer manifold ,it bolts down with 8 bolts so I quess the heads are what you call vortec heads,or at least they are of the newer kind.It has full fw cooling and thunderbolt IV ignition set with 12 degrees initial timing. The carb is a reman edelbrock 1409(marine).Edelbrock sells a kit(1485) but its for the older style engine and 2111 manifold,I suspect these settings might be a bit off.

From what ive gathered merc has used the same carb called weber,I tried finding out the original settings for these carbs as I could use it as initial adjustment and take it from there. But could find anything specific.

If anyone have settings or jetting recommendation for this carb and engine compilation I would be very thankful.

It's not off by too far... as in any situation, you should start with a baseline that is close and then optimize for your set up. I want to say that I wound up with .089 jets and 7047 metering rods and either pink or silver springs - in a non balance shaft bottom end with vortec heads on it...

Regarding timing, once you get the carb dialed in, I would put the cheapest gas you plan to run in it and then advance it 2 degrees at a time until your top speed doesn't increase any more, then back off two degrees... it won't likely make a lot of difference on a stock engine, so you could arguably just go with the 12 initial and be done with it...

Sounds good then.

The markings on the primary jets are almost impossible to read, but I think it states 098(as in 0.098).Same thing on the secondaries. The metering rods have7547 stamped on them,I quess the measurements are 0.075 and 0.047.The springs are plane metal color so I cant tell anything about them.

The 1485 kit comes with 0.089 jets, and 68/57 metering rods and pink springs.

Your setup is the same as the 1485 kit except for the metering rods.
