Efi computer chip to increase hp

I am new to boat motors, especially yamaha's, but as on my harley's, the efi chips are great. I looked on the internet and found a chip for efi motors, i have a 1999 yamaha 225 vmax . Just purchased about a month ago. Also, i was told that the 200, 225, 250 share the same engine block, 3.1 LITER. What is the difference between each of them, and COULD I EASILY GET TO 250 WITH SOME SLIGHT MODIFICATION? Would you install the chip to gain about 30% more horsepower? They are made in Europe, and they are to respond the same as the one's on other fuel injected engines.

I would just like to get the most out of my engine, yet to have it at it optimal potential...i tried looking at the many post on here, but did not find one that dealt with this question.

Thanks each of you for taking time to give me your insight!!

Re: Efi computer chip to increase hp

IF you are talking about the "chip" that is making the internet rounds, it is not a "chip" but a variable resistor.

It hooked up to a temp sender and is mean to fool your EFI motor into thinking it is colder than it really is. That makes the engine computer add more fuel which in turn can dilute your oil, build up carbon deposits, and waste your money.

There is no appreciable power increase.
