I have a 17' Sea Ray Seville. I'm about getting a battery powered motor for a back up. All Im looking for is a motor that would get me to shore in the current in a emergency.

How much thrust would I need...or should I just get a gas motor.

Thanks,
Chris

Depends on the water you boat in. If it's open seas, then a gas kicker would be best. If a protected lake, then you should be able to get by safely with a troller. I'd be lookin' for something in the 50-70 lb range....

Thanks..
I think I might look for a 5hp outboard, that should do the trick.

Chris
