I am looking at buying a small boat with a 40HP
4 cylinder merc manual start. I believe it is @ 1994 model, but do not have the serial no.

I have been told to convert to electric start I need to buy a kit containing, ring gear, stator, rectifier, starter motor and solenoid. Is there anything else I need, & is it an easy job??

I have also been told some of the older 50HP wrecker parts may fit. Is this true?

Re: Electric start conversion 40HP Merc

I have a '95 40hp with electric start. I would think you would also need starter motor brackets, key switch box with wiring, 12V battery with cables to the starter motor. Probably could use the parts off of a 50hp.

Tom
