Hi everyone,

Newbie here. I am looking to gather some information on what brand/model electric winch I should be looking into for my dad's set-up. He has done some research himself, but only at the retail stores. From the little knowledge I have of off-road/Jeep Wrangler winches, I know there cheap brands out there.

Here is the info for my dad's boat:

Boat:
Make/Model: LUND 1775 PRO-V
Year: 1994
Length: 18 ft.

Trailer:
Make/Model: Loadrite
Year: 1984

Motor:
Make/Model: Mercury 150 ELPT
Year: 1983

Overall Weight (est.):
3000 lbs. (2500 lbs. Boat + 500 lbs. Motor)

We live in SE Pennsylvania and have fished with this boat locally (Delaware River), western PA and the NY Finger Lakes. So only freshwater. Along with being interested in an ELECTRONIC WINCH, my dad really liked the models he saw that included a remote control (not cordless) for operating the winch.

I'd appreciate any help you guys can offer. I want this gift to be nice as he's wanted this for a long time.

Cheers,

Justin

PS: I have been encouraging my dad to use forums for researching these types of things as I've had a lot of luck with my automotive hobbies using forums. I set up this account for him, so he will be using this username after I get him the present and introduce him to this site. Thanks again!

Welcome to iboats!

Iboats sell a variety of electric winches. Even the lowest capacity unit will be fine for this relatively small boat. Remote control ups the price, of course. Take a look here:

Powerwinch is the respected brand. It can be pricey as are its parts and accessories. If you trailer a lot, consider hard wiring the cable to the car; the jumper hook-ups can be a big pain.

well if a electric winch is a must i would go with trac..bass pro shops. they have a key fob with the controls wireless.. however you could buy a 2 speed winch that setup and how light that is...that weight seems high is that a manufactureres spect? anyways. electric winches are a pain in the butt if something happens and you aint got no power...They are so slow to wind by hand and having that cable ..it always binds or causes problems..Ive had 2 elctric winches...the first i had for a year ...threw it in the garbage..the second was on my new boat..i bought a new 2 speed and living in pa also when i gets nice that stupid thing is comming off too..but i hope you have better luck that me.. !!!

I think the Powerwinch RC30 is the best on the market. and it also has a remote. Nice to have when driving down the road and you look back to see the cable as let up an inch or two. Just hit the remote and it cinches the boat to the post while at highway speed.
