Oh knowledgeable ones:

I?m attempting to pick up a tach for my 1966 sea king 35 hp. I need to know how many poles (I think that is what the tech said) its electrical system utilizes.

any help would be appreciated,

Your Sea King was built by Chrysler You might try posting in the Chryser Force section. They may need info like electric start or manual.Magneto or battery ignition. You also could consider the tiny tach. They have a web site.More suitable as a hand held but could be installed. Uses pulses from a plug wire.Tach selected for your motor will work on any 2 cylinder 2 stroke.About $40,very easy install.

"Poles" only applies to tachometers that take their signal from the alternator. If you have battery ignition with an alternator, it would be applicable. However if you have magneto ignition with no alternator, tachs are no longer made for them, except induction tachs such as the Tiny Tach.
