I recently bought this boat, 1966 sterncraft with a 2.5L Mercruiser 4 cpl and when I got it I noticed a bunch of wires out of place and terrible looking. I ripped out all of the wiring and started running new wires and ends. I have the engine/gages wiring diagram for this engine set-up and followed it to a T. I have double checked it and feel confident that my wires are in the right spots, they are all tight, clean and secure. I notice that I am not getting spark to the plugs, the distributer cap is new and the plugs are new. The distributer looks good and the wires look ok. I have checked the ignition switch and am getting power to the "B" poet but when I turn the key over I lose power to the switch. I unhooked the tachometer because I kept reading that it is a common cause of shirting the system out. When I did that I was able to turn the key over and get power to the "I" port which is the ignition like it's supposed to. But not to the slave starter cylinder. I was also told I do not have a neautral safety switch, do I? What else could I do or what am
I missing or what else can I test ? I have a test light and a multi-meter and pretty good mechanical background but this thing is driving me crazy. Please help if you have an idea, this is my first boat.

if you have a neutral safety switch you will find 2 yellow w/ red stripe wires coming from the control box.
short the 2 large lugs on the slave and see if the starter will spin

The only things coming out of the throttle is the 2 cables & 2 wires out of the bottom. They are incased in black covering but if I cut the casing open it is 2 single wires, 1 black & 1 white. Is this the TPS?

any wires coming from the control box would be the neutral safety
