Can someone help. I havn,t use my boat for a few weeks and when I tried it today I could not get the power trim to operate or the starter motor either. It was fine before. There is a kind of crackling noise coming from the engine area and I think there must be some wire corrosion somewhere.

I think the problem is the engine is not getting a good earth supply from the battery. Is there a main earth lead to the engine? If so, where is it?
I think it may be corroded or loose. Any other ideas?

Many thanks

Brian

Re: Electrical problems

Track the black lead from the battery, this bolts directly to the engine. Check the battery leads, and posts. If they have wing nuts, replace with stainless, or brass nuts.

Another thing to check is, if you have a tunnel where your electrical wires run to power up you dash. Check the main power lines in there, I have had a mouse get in there and chew through the wires on more then one occasion.

had the same just days ago after boat on trailer for a few weeks (Hurricanes),
Followed tips given here, sandpapered the bat posts and metal eyeconnctors on bat, starter solenoid and starter. Worked immidiately after that.
