electrical?

My 99 Optimax 200 DFI has had a tough year. Replaced powerhead, replace fuel diafphram and now the starter seems bad. One week ago, I tried to start, turned key, heard sound/saw lights to confirm warning system working, tried to start but got nothing. Thought something left on so jumped started; it started and ran fine - repeatedly started without issue the next three days. Left for a few days, went to enjoy water again but had same issue when first trying to start. Jumped again and started. went out onto water and noticed electrical problems - radio not working right. But really, when I went to rim the motor - it stopped running. I jumped started again and ran 3/4 throttle for a few minutes cruising the lake, but tried to trim and the motor stalled. Jumped started to get to dock and trimmed again and stalled. Not won't restart. Starter seems to quit engage flywheel. Spins gear but does not jump up into place. Put into place but then cannot spin flywheel.

Electrical back for most everything but trimming seems slow/strained. Probably need to replace starter but wonder about why electrical was whacky. Any thoughts?

Re: electrical?

Charge or replace the battery.

The alternator on the motor isn't meant to charge dead batteries, just maintain a charge.

Re: electrical?

Pull the battery cables.. .both ends. . .and clean connections carefully. Check both cables for weak spots or swelling.

Sounds like poor connections (even if they look good and are tight).

Good luck. :)

I agree with JB and check connections, if ok check alternator output to battery as belt could be loose.
