009.jpg011.jpgis electro mechanical lift suppose to raise and lower the drive? Can someone explain how this raises and lowers the drive because all i see a plunger looking thing (see photo). Please explain this to me because my repair manual does not show it it only talks about hydraulic cylinders which i cannot find any hydraulic cylinders on mine.

Re: electro mechanical lift 275 stern drive

I have the correct manual for my 1987 bayliner capri. I have looked thru every section and i cannot find anything that talks about this plunger looking thing. Does the blunger extend down and push on the stop and raises the drive and then retracts and the weight of the motor itself makes it go back down? The electro mechanical lift motor on the inside back wall behind the engine (see picture) is what i guess moves this plunger thing up and down. Am i in the ball park with how this works or not. I just want to know how this electro mechanical lift raises and lowers the drive. I am familiar with how a jack screw works but i do not see anything that looks like a jack screw that would raise and lower the drive.

You'll have to drill down to your engine and outdrive but here's one that will be similar to yours:http://www.volvopentastore.com/Mechanical-Lifting-Device-Drive-Unit-275-Sp-A-Mt/dm/*******.837359459--session_id.969002607--store_id.366--view_id.782350

The Bayliner manual really isn't going to go too far into the mechanical issues of the engine and outdrive. You'll need the Volvo Penta shop manuals to do any real work.

You're right in your assumption of how it works. There's a little more involved like the release pawls on the outdrive but you've got the idea.

Hopefully, one of the mods will be by soon and move this into the VP section.

i have power up to the lift motor but it does not actuate the lift. I have 12v when switch is put to up and 12 v when switch is placed in down. Does the boat engine have to be running for this to work?
