Re: electronic forward reverse

This can get quite involved and you really need a manual to do it properly. Meanwhile you can check the obvious. Inside the control box where the buttons are you will see 3 wires going to the buttons. Red, Green and Blue. With the key on be sure you have 12v on the red wire. The green and blue wires go all the way back and into the lower unit. This is where a manual is needed to properly check them as I can't remember. Also check the lower unit for oil. It has to have the proper oil in it (type C) (and no water in it) for it to shift. You may be able to find a manual at your local library and copy the appropriate pages.

As IBN states, the gearlube must be what is known as "Type C", but more so known as "Premium Blend" which is available only at your dealership. You CANNOT use the gearlube (HiVis) that is used in the standard mechanical shift lower units.

NOTE that this is NOT the same as the automotive oil which may also be listed as premium!

The lower unit must be filled from the bottom drain/fill screw hole until it flows out of the identical upper screw hole (oil level hole). It CANNOT be filled from the top hole!

To check the lower unit itself, find the two shift wires at the engine that lead down to the lower unit and disconnect them.

Apply 12 volts to one wire then the other. When you apply voltage to one wire, the prop should grab in one direction, voltage to the other wire should make the prop grab in the opposite direction.

If the above checks out okay, I would assume that either voltage isn't being applied to the shift switch, or the switch is not switching properly and throwing voltage to the wires leading to the above stated wires that lead to the lower unit.

Let us know what you find.
