It eliminates dwell, but you still have to time it.

There is a bit more to the story.

If you use a pertronix type system, you need to time it once. The only problem with the pertronix unit is it retains the old mechanical spark advance system. If you choose to install this system, check out the mech advance mech for sticking/wear.

If you install a HEI type unit, it's all in the control unit. A YLM dist is recommended by some. Not sure if they make a 4 cyl model.

if you want to spend 500+ for a new distributor with full electronic USB capability that takes a bit of work to get it good, 123ignition makes a killer setup for our motors, marine legal as well... imo, get the pertronix igition... cost me around 150 for the whole deal..
