Greetings,
I am working on a 1972 Mercruiser 888 Ford 302 with a Motorcraft distributor stamped d1jf 12127 MA. I would like to convert this to electronic ignition but can't find any kits for it from the usual manufactures. I am also ignorant of what all the letters and numbers stand for. Please assist. Thanks in advance
Chris

No Title

Here ya go. My research points out that Motorcraft distributors were a bit more common on Mercruiser 140s. I'm just special I guess having one on an 888? LOL
Thanks Chris

Hey Bondo,
I'm almost certain the housing was stamped "Motorcraft" because it wasn't what I expected. I'll be working on her this weekend and will check again. Please check back to this post after the weekend when I update. Thanks in advance for your help. chris

Just back from the boat. It is marked "Motocraft" on the distributor housing. Other numbers stamped are 2312, DIJF 12127 MA.
I believe this is the original distributor. Please advise as to electronic ignition conversion, and finding other parts to tune up this old gal
Thanks Chris

I'm afraid I cant help much about the question at hand, but I can tell you from my time as a Ford guy that a part number D1JF is a 1971 Ford Part. The first letter is the decade (c=60s, d=70s, e=80s, etc) and the second number is the year of the decade, so D1 = 1971 production.

Update guys,
Although uncommon Motorcraft distributors were dropped into some Mercruiser 888s in 1971 and 1972. As noted D1JF stamped stands for D for 70s decade,
1 stands for year, J means it's marine, and F stands for "electronic division". Petronics makes a conversion kit 912884 and marine grade coil 45111 which will work. Thanks for the help! Chris
