My buddy is having problems with his 1976 johnson 85hp. I'm not too familiar with these engines but he is having a hard time starting her up. We checked for spark and didnt have any. Does anyone have a instructions on how to troubleshoot the ignition system or power packs? Or suggestions on how to test the system? Thanks alot

Re: Electronic ignition

You can do an easy test. Disconnect the control box main cable at the engine end. Jump the starter direct with a set of jumper cables to a known strong battery. If it still has no fire when cranking, then the problem is somewhere on the engine. (as opposed to the control box key switch and wiring harness.) Keep in mind, that engine has to crank at least 250 rpm's in order to fire the ignition system.
