Great post, and great information, the only thing i would caution people on is that you should not use your boat as a ground, your should run everything back to the negative on the battery. This is especially true on aluminum boat.

You're right. Also, the use of tinned wire is standard for marine electronics.

While the circuit, switch, relay, and general wiring information is very instructional, keep in mind that tutorial was "automotive" based. Scotchlocks for example should be avoided at any cost. Yes - they are used. They are no replacement for the various other methods of joining wires in the marine world. Avoiding crimping at all costs is another bit of mis-information. Both crimping and soldering will certainly re-ignite debate but again, both methods are better than Scotchlocks. So while informative, I think being auto-based, this is not appropriate as a sticky in this forum. Good info yes.

You don't use Scotchlocks ever...even on a car. Also, his soldering advice leaves a LOT to be desired. You never hook two wires like that and solder.
