I have a 1984 sea ray with an omc motor I put a new alternator in it and now the key will not turn off the motor. I don?t know what happened I did not switch any wires or connections. The boat was converted from points before I bought it I can?t seem to figure it out. Please help!!! Thanks

Post a picture of the back of the alternator so we can see how it's wired, Was it the same type alternator you took off?
What engine? 4 cylinder, V8?

Re: eletrical issues

If it worked ok before you replaced the alternator, I would have to guess the wiring is now hooked up wrong.

Without being able to see it, or to know what color wires are hooked where, along with the type alternator, it's impossible to guess what's wrong.

Re: eletrical issues

If it isn't the wiring, it could be an issue in the regulator if a 10SI Delco. There's one diode in there that can feed the switch terminal from the sensing terminal if blown. A lot of ifs there.
