I have an aircooled Elgin, Sears & Roebuck, thought to be 2 h.p., Mod. 571-59301, 301-21971 stamped on the intake manifold. I'd like to know the year and of any forum, group or shop familiar with these pre-WWII Elgin motors.

It hauled many a moose or hunter loaded canoe in Canada before retiring to my FL garage for 40 years. It deserves another twilight years run.

I don't see a prewar 2 hp.It appears the 571 prefix didn't come into use till 37.These motors were built by Kissel.Being in Canada perhaps it was Canadian built.I don't see any 5 digit suffixes till 46 571-58301 1 1/4 hp.,and no 2 hp till 52 571-58201.Again maybe there are different Canadian numbers.West Bend assembeled motors in 45 from left over Kissel parts.West Bend production began in 46.You may be able to find more info and help at www.aomci.org
