emergency kicker

thinking about a drop in emergency kicker for my 97 1903 found a 2012 merc. 5 hp still under warranty for 450.00,and the bracket for around 200.00 first one i looked at but i'am not to good for a used one . is it worth the money or do they spend more time in the way

side note: you guys send out a lot of help on this site , thanks to all

i don't know what a 97 1903 is, but assuming it's a 19' boat, with an outboard? If so, yes the kicker will be in the way. If one is a two stroke and the other a four stroke then you have different fuel and tanks to deal with. you have to use the kicker often if you want it to be there for an emergency. Many people have to take them off the boat when not in use b/c they are thief magnets.
$450 sounds like a great price for a new 5 HP

I do not think that for most recreational boaters, esp. with small boats, carrying a spare motor in case the main breaks down is necessary or worth it. It's different if you use it for trolling primarily, or you alreay have a small motor lying around, or you boat in remote and deserted areas (including way offshore).

there is a lot of boats in florida with them , but you also see a lot of empty mounts on the water , point made with the fuel it is a 4 stroke kicker 2 stroke on the boat ,so another thing in the way. oh and it is a 19 ft bayliner trophy cc thank you
