If there's an electrical problem with a remote control motor and/or remote harness or plug (mine happens to be a 70 3 cyl but I think this applies to most) such as bad ignition switch, bad neutral lockout, no starter, etc. it appears that the "limp home" mode is as follows:
1) Pull the plug, disconnecting the remote.
2) Jump from the big red battery wire going to the starter solenoid to the small hot terminal (yellow on my motor) to engage the starter.
3) Drive home.

How's this sound?

Make sure it's in neutral because you're bypassing the safety switch. It won't work on motors with distributors because the amplifier wouldn't get power. You won't be able to shut it off quickly or prime it. If there's a choke, you can choke to start and to kill. There are a lot more exceptions, but many outboards can be started by disconnecing the main harness plug and arcing those two terminals with a couple of screwdrivers. Now that you know, we have to kill you. Sorry. Nothing personal you understand. Just post your address and the best time to find you at home. ;)
