hi all thank you for helping me i managed to put the merccruser 470 together and it did not leak or overheat but the throtel was accting funny on the water it did not go into gear like it use to and at the end of my test run it came off the side mount it was really bad i now want to change it so i called my local marine shop and they are telling me that it is discontinued and i have to get a used one so my question is can i put a new one (any other brand or after market part) of do i have to go to the junk yard for it its a 1980 4 cyl merc 470 sidemount with tilt and trim.....thank you for your help guys

There are aftermarket gunwale controls and mercury also builds new ones ck on controls that your cables will fit or you will have to buy new cables also
