I have a 2016 Chaparral with a Volvo i/o. Every now and then, I get an alarm indicating "Start/Stop Broadcast" and it lasts for about 5 to 10 seconds. I've reached out to Volvo and my dealer and can't get anyone to tell me what this means. Anybody have an idea?

My thought is there is a loose or bad connection somewhere. A wire or relay failing, key switch contacts, plug connection

Just a guess but maybe muc will have a better idea

Hi Chad, Welcome to iBOATS.
Happy to help you, but Volvo made many different engines with a few different control systems. Chaparral made many different models with many different options.

So I have a few questions that would help me answer your question.
What is the engine serial number?
Where are you reading this alert? Is “start/stop broadcast” the exact text your seeing?
Single or twin engines?
Do you use a key or push a button to start the engine?

Thank you for responding. The information on the engine are as follows:

V80300-C-G
40869532
A549818
VPGAS059541

The alarm is displayed on the tachometer gauge to the left of the panel. It reads exactly as "Start/Stop Broadcast" It is a single engine I/O that has a key start.

Thanks for the photos.
It looks like your tach has a SPN and FMI code, but I can’t quite read them. Can you tell me what they are and if there are any other codes that come up?
Also do you have any symptoms, like hard to start or starts and dies?

This code was another issue. I included it to show which gauge the alert was on. I tried to find a picture of the current issue but couldn’t find it. I’ll try and look again tomorrow. And there are no performance issues currently. Just the alarm.

Start/Stop Broadcast isn't a known fault. My guess is it might showing up because your ECM is getting a start command when it's already running.

Try starting your engine when it's already running and see if that fault then shows on the tach.
