I just installed a rebuilt 454 mag into my 89 sea ray pachanga 22, bravo I drive, new front engine mounts, new rear engine mounts, new gimbel brg., etc. I measured the height of the old front mtr. mnts, and set the new ones to the same height. The port side is 1/2" lower than the starboard side.
When I insert the alignment tool, it goes into the splines about 1/3 of the way and than stops. The first 1/3 it goes in real easy, turns with 2 fingers, etc.. I tried adjusting the front mounts up and down, and I could not get the tool in at all. I tried knocking the tool up, down, left, right with a dead blow hammmer. No change. There appears to be no damage or wear to the coupler or splines. I made sure the rear mounts were installed exactly as the old ones. Also, made sure of; fiber washer, spring, spacer, washer, bolt, positioning.
I have read in other posts that the tool should go all the way in. I am getting very frustrated. Should I just leave it the way it is, or try adjusting some more ?? If more adjusting is needed, which way ??

Thanks

Chris

ps- it is an aftermarket tool, I measured it with a micrometer and it appears to be in spec (1.010")
