Engine Alignment

So at the start of every season I pull my drive, replace my impeller and check my engine alignment.... and it seems that every year the alignment is off. This year, as a result, I've got a worn out gimbal bearing... again. This cant be normal. Whats strange is that the drive slides off without any struggle. If the alignment was that horrrible I'd expect some resistance? The front engine mounts appear in good shape and the stringers are nice and sold (transom too). Anyone have some insight as to what I may be doing wrong or what might cause this problem to keep occouring? Thanks.

Being out of alignment will not wear out a gimbal bearing in a year. If it did, it would be wearing out the coupler too.
When you do your alignment and get it just right, do you turn the engine 180? and try it again?

Might want to look at this thread http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=443992

Re: Engine Alignment

I did not try rotating the engine but I will do that next. I hope the coupler is ok, the splines are all nice and square and I cant feel any cracking in the rubber... Could bad rear mounts (that little fibre washer) cause this? I cant really see them too well. Thanks.
