Hi

I have a four winns horizon 180 (2005). It recently had some work done on it by Volvo Dealership. We are away on holiday and had a great day out. On returning I lifted the catch above the engine bay and the whole thing just came off. We have lost all four screws that go into the engine bay cover (the ones facing up, not the ones that go into the boat). The only thing holding it on was the latch where you lift it up.

Anyway, we are away from home and I need some new screws, can anyone give me an idea of the size of screws I need to replace.

Thanks

Andrew

Re: Engine Bay Cover screws size

Hi there, sounds like the lock for the "sundeck" has pulled out. What model boat do you have?

180 Horizon LE 2005
180 Horizon LE F&S
2005 180 Horizon LE Sunsport 2005

Since you have the latch mechanism in your hand, you'll want to walk it into a hardware store with you to ensure the screws will fit into the four holes.

The two sizes that come to mind that were used where either #10 x 1/2" Flat Head Phil Stainless Steel Sheet Metal Screw Marine SS or it could of been an #8 x 1/2" Flat Head Phil Stainless Steel Sheet Metal Screw Marine SS.

Something like these for example,
100 Pcs 10 x 1 2" Flat Head Phil Stainless Steel Sheet Metal Screw Marine SS | eBay

You may be able to upgrade to an 3/4" screw but be careful to take note that it's not too long so that when someone uses the area for sitting, crawling, kneeling, etc. it won't eventually poke through the vinyl or cut someone.

Please bear in mind that these locks has an tendency to fail like this from time to time and also if it's not adjusted just right, the hatch could lift up and fly away while on the highway.

Also so you're aware, Your thread was posted in the wrong forum section so it'll be move up to Boat Topics and Questions (not engine topics) for you.;)

Good luck.:)
