Engine Bogging down and stalling

Now that winter is heading out, time to fix a problem. I have an older 1991 Force 120HP outboard, and my problem was the engine was bogging down. The engine would run just fine when idling, however when I engage the engine and throttle up, the engine would bogg down almost like it was struggling to get fuel, and then the engine would stall out. I have inspected all the fuel lines, everything looks good. Is it possible this is a carb issue perhaps? I dont think the carbs have been serviced since the engine was built. Also, I do know that last year the engine was running very rich, more oil was added to the mix then should have been. I am thinking this has wreaked havoc on the carbs.

Re: Engine Bogging down and stalling

First thing, a compression and a spark test. Post the results.
You have an inline filter or a water seperating fuel filter?
Unhook the fuel line and draw off a bit of gas in a clear(glass) container, check for water.
After you do this and find no problems?? Then check the fuel pump diaphram, replace it even if it's good. $6 for the part.
Then clean the carbs. Don't use a carb soak. It can ruin any rubber/plastic in the carbs.
I use soap(Dawn)water. Then blow dry.
Like food suggests clean or change the plugs.
Also check the air screw,top/center/front or on the side with a spring around the screw on the carb.
Initial setting, one turn out from gently seaated.
Start and warm up. Then turn in the screw till it just kicks, bucks, stutters. then back out 1/2 turn. Idle about 750-800 in gear, motor warm.
