Engine bogs down and dies

Hey all,

Spent the weekend out on the boat and ran across a problem I have not had before. When the engine is cold and I push down on the throttle to plane, the engine bogs down and dies. I check and the bulb is soft. If I pump the bulb the boat planes, no prob. This happened all weekend. If I stopped for an hour with the engine off, it would occur. If I was running for hrs, I could stop and plane all day.

The problem only happens when I turn the engine off for any extended period. Other than this the engine ran great all weekend.

Thoughts?? Bad bulb? Bad line? clogged fitler?? Fuel Pump?

Where should I start?

Thanks in advance,

Try it again, only this time push in the choke when you're trying to plane, if it picks it up and you plane, fuel starvation is the culprit. Dirty carbs, clogged jets, carb kit time for you.;) Oh and definitely change the filter.

check you line for an air leak. the motor is loosing prime. once the engine start the bulb is suppose to soften, as the fuel pump starts drawing fuel. you may need a new bulb, the check valves do go bad.

Thanks guys.

The engine is definetly losing prime.

Carter, I did also push in the choke on a couple of the times and that did work as you said. The carbs have been cleaned a couple of months ago.

Tash, I will check the line and will go ahead and replace the bulb as I have had this boat less than a year and don't know when/if the previous owner had replaced it.

Again, thanks guys.....
