OMC 5.7L carbed. It has one of those big double fuel inlet holley carbs.
About as soon as it hits 4000rpms the engine will start to break up and shake a bit. It will hit 4000 and kinda gradually loose a few hundred rpms but never stall and will maybe only drop down to 3500. I did a full tune-up and checked the fuel water separator for water but the fuel is both new and clean. When running I looked down the carb and it seems to break up almost exactly when the secondaries open up but there is fuel pouring in from everyone that there seems to need fuel. I'm kinda thinking either carb or coil now but am looking to see what other people think. If I hook up a spark checker to the coil and watch for it to break up would that tell me if the coil is bad or can the coil be OK and just not be putting out spark because of something else going wrong? I could also disconnect the tach and see what happens. Like I said I'm just seeing what other people think.
