Just for curiosity sake: Is it possible to exchange an Olds 455 engine ( boat currently has a OMC 351 240 hp Windsor ) and fit to an OMC 800 stringer outdrive. I happen to have this engine laying around-any comments appreciated; good/bad/or crazy thinking about it !!!

Re: Engine change

yep
its possible
will last about 15 min tops. I saw a guy pull a 327 out and put a 396 in and it shredded parts everytime ya hit the throttle. you will need to reroute the exhaust and find the bell housing from a 225 OMC v6 buik. the flywheel will have to be an olds manual shift. there may be some difference in the flywheel pitch and diameter from the buick to the olds. but the swap will be more problems than its worth. way to much power even in stock shape. I still have a 1970 w-30 442 man that 455 will go:) :) . a clean 1st-2nd or 2nd 3rd at 6500 makes a smile on ones face. nothing like an old muncie with a hurst shifter to make ya smile

good luck and keep posting

Man that reminds me of a '70 Olds 98 Convertible I had.
The 455 is an awesome torque motor better suited for beefy frives or jet drives.

I agree, Rodbolt, probably just wishful thinking-you were talking about a 442 you had/have...I had a crazy high-school classmate with a 70' 442 with auto transmission. We played baseball together and one day came home from a summer Legion game at 135 mph. I remember the faster that car went, the better it rode. We doggone sure beat everbody home that day !!! He later ended up with a convertible W-30 standard that his sister wrecked...wonder what that car would be worth now ???
