Hi all,
got a 1979 merc 470 runs well...for 30mins or so then it starts to choke, gasp, cough then dies...sometimes with a backfire....Also after about 30 minutes running when I hit trim tabs it bogs the motor down but trim tabs work fine before the 30 minute mark....
Temp gauge never goes above 150 (usually is hanging at about 140 or slightly above when this occurs....
Engine seems pretty hot so I was thinking it is overheating but temp gauge seems to be reporting normal temp range.
This happened for the last 4 times we took the boat out - testerday it happened again - this time there was no coughing - engine just died after running 30 minutes at 3000rpm now it won't even start....
any idea's on what I should check?
