Hi,

I was wondering what is the best way to clean your engine.
I recently purchased my first boat and noticed a good amount of rust on the outside.
Also getting a minimum amount of oil in the bilge what also good be left overs from the oil change that was done recently.
To make sure i want to clean the engine and the bilge.

Thanks

Dennis

You could use an automotive engine cleaner and then a bilge cleaner afterwards to get the bilge clean. For the rust you could use a rust reformer and then top it off with black paint. Rustoleum is fine.

thanks Ted, yes i was looking in to an engine cleaner but problem with most of them is that you have to rinse them with water after.
Is that a problem?

You are going to have to rinse it with something and water is about the best thing to use. You will want to blow out the standing water on the top of the engine, etc. with your air compressor or leaf blower.

Put some plastic wrap over the air intake to the engine before you do the cleaning and throughout the rinsing, so you are not getting any water inside the engine.

In the manual its says this wire goed to the plug. Does anybody know what its for?

Your alt should have 4 wires a large Red or Orange , large Black , a small Red and a small Purple the small wires gp to the alt regulator for "sense" and " excite"

Is it a big problem if this red-purple cable isn't connected?
And where is the alt regulator located?
