I read a post a few days ago that mentioned greasing the engine coupler. That was something I never knew. Went out today, located the coupler and can't find any grease fitting. I could feel all the way around it and no grease fitting. Do they make a coupler with no grease fitting that is permanently greased?

No, not permanently grease . Part of the yearly service to remove the drive, grease the U joints, hand grease the spline, inspect the bellows for oil or water.and check engine alignment

Ayuh,..... Yer '87 is before the grease gun grease able couplers,....

Lack of grease is a real coupler Killer too,....
The splines go from flat top to pointy, to Gone,....
Trollin' compounds the issue, as it's always loadin', 'n unloadin' for hours on end,...

You might have to pull the outdrive and put some grease into the coupler by hand. I often do that even though I have the grease fittings.

I just replaced my engine coupler a few weeks ago. Original part had no grease fitting. New "style" part did. When drive comes off one should put grease onto the splines of the driveshaft. Driveshaft splines insert into coupler.

Thanks guys.... Now I know that in '87 there was no grease zerk on the coupler. When I had all new bellows, etc done 2 years ago I am pretty sure the mechanic greased the spline and u-joints. Only have about 25-30 hours on it since then. I will wait until end of the season and pull the outdrive and service everything then.
