Engine coupler swap out

Working on my new engine, I noticed the coupler that attaches to the flywheel was totally trashed, I dont even know how this happened but its toast (see first picture)
Luckily the one from my 84 fit just fine onto it (second picture). Is there anything to be concerned about when doing this? Any kind of torquing you need to be thinking about to make sure it doesnt vibrate or wobble?
The coupler on my 92 did NOT have those little parralellogram shaped shims/washers (3rd pic) so I didnt use them, just bolted it to the flywheel (it did have the little rubber standoffs)

Pics:
1 - old bad one
2 - good one transferred from old engine
3 - little gold things I didnt use because the 92 didnt have them before

I would suggest not using the 92 one either because it is also worn. Note the points on the teeth, all are worn

Well you could use it for a short time and then have to yank the motor again to replace it with a new one

My guess was to contain the grease the owners pumped thru the grease fitting instead of removing the drive for service

+1 on a new coupler... That is one of those pieces I'd never consider ever putting a used one back in. The part is cheap compared to the labor and downtime involved.

So the one with tube will work also even though my current ones dont have the tube?
I guess the outdrive shaft just fits through the tube

not to mention in addition to the worn teeth, the hub is coming unbonded from the elastomer

Thanks for the advice. I didnt even notice the coupler when I bought the engine because it was still in the boat.
Guess mine was about to die anyway, avoided that disaster at least. Would be nice to be able to grease it without removing the outdrive so ill get one, thanks!
