Engine cover does double duty

I have not seen anyone note this elsewhere but in casting around for a container of some kind to run our 85 HP Force I saw that the engine cover seemed to fit the bill. Turning it upside down and stuffing a sponge into the handhold and it was good to go! (Duct tape would have done a better job)

I had a fair amount of crumbling sound insulation to clear out first and I would not recommend running it in gear, for obvious reasons. Actually removing the prop would probably be a good idea.

I wonder if it was intentionally designed this way?

Seeing how they had foam in em, I doubt that was the intended purpose.

Why not just get a set of muffs for it? I'd sure hate to screw it up...Replacements arent cheap and are hard to come by!

Good idea to get that foam outta there before it gets in the carbs...I put undercoating on mine but its still louder than a KISS concert.

I took a junker car, opened the hood and took out the insulation clipped to the underside of the hood, and cut it to fit, and glued it the the inside of my outboard cover. Quiet like Ninja, now. It's not foam, so it doesn't crumble. Just hit up a junkyard.. like five bucks.

i used the foam like in guncases. mine is fairly dense. and i glued it in. very quiet. i had the exploding foam thing happen to me a few years back. it all decided to go at once. clogger and killed her. had to bring home and clean the carb out. ran it with nothing till this spring when i did the re foam.
