2003 baja outlaw20. 5.0mpi merc alpha 1 gen2. 220 hrs.

Trying to figure out why my boat is having issues. It seems like the engine is cutting out or sputtering doesnt matter if its in nuetral, idle, taking off or top end. Sometimes when cruising it will be normal and I go to punch it and it will bog down or something like its running on 7 cylinders.

I changed the fuel filter and put fresh gas in it and it still does it. Im thinkin it could be a spark plug or maybe a lot of water still in the tank. anybody got any ideas?? Thanks

Re: engine cutting out

You have alot more checkin to do. Adding new gas to bad gas doesn't make the bad gas good. It has to be removed completely. All the basics need to be gone through, as in plugs, timing, fuel condition and pressure, compression, then you come to the MPI part that generally only techs that know what is going on and has the diagnostic tools to go through it. Re: engine cutting out

I went out to start checking stuff yesterday and found one of plug wires was prettmuch disconnected from the spark plug so thats why it was cutting in and out. Maybe I shoulda checked all that before I wrote this. Thanks for the info though!
