Engine de-carb.

Hi all,I'm rebuilding a Force and working on cleaning the pistons.
I thought I'd test the Seafoam or Powertune by Merc. or Engine Tuner by OMC for carbon removal.
The last 2 are the same product just a different name.
I took the rings off and put some liquid from both Seafoam and Engine Tuner in different pans.
I heated the pistons with a propane torch, not enough to weaken or damge, just got hot, like they'd be if I ran the motor..
After heating I put 2 pistons in the E.T. and 1 in the Seafoam.
They both bubbled up and smoked a bit.
I let set 24hrs.
The carbon just fell off with the E.T. The Seafoam did NOTHING!Kinda like Listerine. Only good for a cheap drunk.
So the claim it removes built up carbon ??? I now, don't really believe.
I know I'll never buy it again.
A can of drygas will do the same.

Wonder how long this post will stay up before I get yelled at???

Seafoam is intended to be used in a running engine, and it works when directions are followed. ET is good stuff, too. It appears that ET also works static, where Seafoam is out of its territory.

Seafoam is a waste of money. I have tried it many times following the directions on the can and the only thing it is good for is turning an engine into a smoke machine. Never found it to remove any carbon at all. Mercury Power Tune is some good stuff though.

Re: Engine de-carb.

Back in the old days we decarbed our small outboards and chainsaws by carefully dripping water into the carb of a warmed up engine running at about 2Krpm. At first it made smoke, then steam. We ran the engine for several minutes after the steam stopped. Piston and chamber were squeaky clean.

WHY WOULD ANYONE YELL AT YOU?

All you did was a comparison and post your results. Then you gave your opinion.

I used seafoam according to directions and it worked as advertised. Edit: To make a fair comparison, are you going to spray ET into a running engine?

Re: Engine de-carb.

Yes.I have done that too. It brought up the compression.
But, if your having trouble with low comp.
The ET or PT, even Seafoam is a stopgap measure.
You have problems and a rebuild is in your future.

Using deep creep on what?
It might help loosen rings??
But like I said ,if there is a problem with compression/carbon? You have rebuild in your future.

Re: Engine de-carb.

You add ANY petrolium based product into a cylinder and it's gonna smoke.
If it's any benifit?? Iknow from trying the seafoam it doesn't do much.
Maybe use as a water absorber?? Or a door stop?
