Engine Degreasers

I am interested in cleaning up my engine and was wondering if you guys (veterans)had any suggestions, tricks or just plain insight. <br />I imagine you have to bag the alternator to keep it dry. Is there anything else I should know or is it safe to spray this stuff(star-brite engine degreaser ) on and let it do its thing and wash away?<br />Thanks folks<br />Your always a great help

Don't forget the starter. What about the engine compartment? Where will the runoff go?<br /><br />Sorry I don't have answers, just more questions.

Depending on just How Greasey it Is,<br />Diesel Fuel,+ a Stiff Brush before you get to the stuff you've got,<br />Will make a World of Difference in the Results................<br /><br />Bag the Alt.,+ Dist.,+ Carb....... The Starter will be fine, just Don't give it any direct hits with the powerwasher.......

Castrol Super Clean is a very good degreaser and its Bio degradeable, I had a freind who keep telling about it and I never tried it because it just seemed to cheap. So he finally brought some over a showed me how well it worked I felt like a idiot it worked so well. I have spent 50 dollars or more a gal. for cleaners that didn't work 1/2 as well and it's 6 bucks a gal at Wal Mart. It even work on seats and lime on the hull---Bob

My manual suggests keeping a light coat of oil on my engine.... just a thought.

Don't even think about using a "Light Coat of Oil" on your engine, man that makes a mess everytime you try to work on it.<br />There are too many good corrosion guard products out there that don't leave an oily residue, and protect better on electrical parts also.

Please don't let your "crap" runoff into the open water. Not trying to be deurogotory, but we all need to do our part.

Thanks guys.<br />I will be doing this in my driveway and no runoff will be in the storm water drains, waterways , etc. I have some cleaner/degreaser from a local car detailing shop that makes their own stuff. They also sell Collonite waxes so I think I will give that a shot.

What *is* a good corrosion gaurd product for our engines? There are so many hoses and wires wrapped around this thing it's a chore to wipe it down, so I'd rather be able to spray whichever product works best. Seems like a spray would be able to get into the nooks and crannies better than wiping, too.

PWCs say to use Silicone Spray. Merc makes Corrosion Guard which I personally don't like for that application.

CRC makes some good stuff..spray it on...sold in boat stores

On cleaners, I have used Simple Green for years.........spray on full strenght or mix third water or more, and hose it off
