1988 force 50 hp, ran for two hours fine, idle and wide open. Stopped to fish, would only idle on warm up. needed to keep pushing the choke to idle. Quits when put in gear. primer bulb is soft. Did the same thing a day before, but could get in gear by using the choke. Very cold blooded, hard to keep running, when first starting. Seems to be out of gas changed tanks, same problem. New gas in both tanks.

Re: engine dies

Sounds like you may have more than one problem. Primer bulb should get firm after squeezing 4 or 5 times. If not, then needle valve in carb is leaking, or bad primer bulb. Having to choke to keep running sounds like the not enough fuel getting to carb. Since you changed tanks with no change in symptoms, I would double check the primer bulb, and change the fuel pump diaphragm. Take the fuel bowl off of the carb to check for any debris or crud in the carb.
