The starboard engine on my Monterey 296 crusier (Merc 250 hp, 5.7) does not like to idle. It starts and runs ok and idles fine from cold or from hard running for about 20 minutes, then it slowly looses RPM and stalls. I need to pump the lever in order to restart it like it is fuel starved. I can keep it running by advaning the throttle, but it stalls if I try to shift it. At WOT it also has reduced power. The Port engine runs 4600 rpm and the starboard only runs 4200 rpm. What should I check?

Thanks

Re: Engine does not like to idle

frist pull fuel strainer check fuel condition dump into plastic bowl look for junk. sounds like loss of fuel pressure you must have elec pumps? do you have acess to fuel pressure checker? you can do a volume check BUT you must be careful 1. groung coil wire with jumper wire. no sparks can happen or youre ins man will be pissed if you make it out. remove fuel line from carb install house over line to carb put other end in clean clear juice bottle. 3. have good buddy crank engine got good folw into bottle?? if this is good you will have to check the carb. PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHEN WHEN WORKING WITH FUEL ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING BAD THINGS HAPPEN FAST!! IF YOU ARE NOT GOOD WITH WRENCH FIND SOMEONE WHO IS.....
