Post a pic of your engine. If it has a closed cooling system you will have a heat exchanger that is about 4" in diameter and 18" long or so right on top front of engine - goggle merc closed cooling system to see what one looks like installedI have a 1996 Chaparral Sunesta 230 that has always been on a lake but just got moved to the ICW. Is the engine cooling system a closed system or do I have to flush the engine and how? It’s a Mercruiser engine

I did the heat exchanger coolant on my MCM470 . I used antifreeze coolant 65% distilled water 35% ... the engine has the pervious owner [1985] ... THEN did the coolant pump [WATER ] then the CAM SHAFT CORROSION AREA..OF THE COOLANT SEAL PUMP...I did the cam shaft cap to setup the cam rod [heat it ] ... I did not use later and NO coolant failures .. also drain the sea water plugs drained it out ..sea water flush the heat exchanger ....fresh water ..I have a 1996 Chaparral Sunesta 230 that has always been on a lake but just got moved to the ICW.
