my engine is a 1975 70 johnson . the engine dies sometimes when going into gear. before adjusting the slack out of the cable it wouldnt go into gear without going dead. im thinking the engine isnt advancing quick enough when going into gear. if this sounds right please let me know. and where should it be set. any information will be greatly appreciated.

You might trying idling it up a little. The engine should idle at 700-750rpm in gear, in the water.

c/6

Hooty

You've got two different post about the same problem. It makes it real difficult for us to help you when you do that, not to mention it also pi*ses us off.

Hooty

now the engine will run and take gear fine with water covering the prop. it dies when you put it in gear when you fill water over the two rows of holes right above the prop. sorry for confusion on the other post i will take it off.
