I am new to the boating world so I have a few questions that really need to be answered. I have tried numerous sites, help sites and vast amounts of Internet clicking and ended up feeling like this site was the best. I recently inherited a boat from the passing of my father. With limited information. From what i found out or think i have discovered is that the title is wrong. Title states its an 88 16ft Boston whaler with a 94 Mercury 50hp outboard. Serial number is
0B207206 on the plate. I believe i have narrowed down the year to possibly 1987 by searching through this sites "sticky and freq asked questions" sections. However i am still uncertain. Any help anyone can provide would be AWESOME. I have had the boat out already but i need to know first and foremost if its a 2 or 4 stroke engine. I need gas :) motor says oil injected but i dint wanna burn it up so rather ask here first. Also it has 3 spark plugs so I'm assuming 3 cylinders? again any information would be greatly appreciated. trying to get on the lake Sunday.

Also any help on the mix ratio if it is a 2 stroke would help as well.

Re: Engine help

it's a two stroke. put 2 cycle outboard oil in the oil tank and regular gas in your gas tank and you're good to go

Re: Engine help

There should be an oil tank under your outboard hood you put a two stroke oil in that tank and run clear unmixed fuel in your big tank.

Your motor should automatically mix your fuel for you.

Re: Engine help

take the cover off the motor and check for the oil tank, you cant miss it if its there. if its not then someone removed it and you will have to mix the oil with the gas manually 25:1 ratio

Re: Engine help

As was mentioned ,It is a two stroke engine that requires a 50:1 ratio. You need to determine if your oil injection is hooked up.It runs off of a crank gear to the oil pump on the front left hand side of the motor.Check to see if your oil pump lines are still hooked to the oil pump and fuel pump.If they are and you have oil in the tank on the motor,It is probably using the injection. As a word of caution, a problem with this component,be it lines or a pump not working correctly can and will destroy the motor. The safest way to be sure is to block off the oil line from the tank on the motor to the pump and plug the oil line fitting on the fuel pump and mix the fuel and oil in the fuel tank. That way you know it has oil.I just rebuilt a 70hp motor that the owner had a broken oil line and threw the number two rod out the side of the block.Safer to mix !! Hope this helps. JJ
