Have a 87 Searay Seville Bowrider and had transom redone.(Engine and boat in garage)..Now about ready to place engine back into boat (4.0 litre in-line 4 cyl)..I took it out (with help) with an engine lift; straps etc..We had a heck of a time...Had to pry with a 2X4 underneath engine to get it over stern while I eased out boat out garage...(just not enough lift in hoist to let engine clear side of boat)..I rented the tow behind lift at a equipment rental place...Would chains (short) give me a little more lift to clear gunwel?..I think it would but it may need more..Any tricks from you pros out there? ....Thanks,Pete44

Re: Engine Installation

Cant see the shorter chain helping. I had to use a chain lift from a tree once and now I have it from the garage ceiling. I put bundled 2x4s across all the ceiling joists going across the garage and use a chain hoist ($50 bucks at the Auto store). I can just get it high enough to pull my small block up high enough to pull the boat out form under it. Foget the tow behinds, they are designed for cars. Your new to boats and youre going to find there is a lot of stuff good for cars that just anit good enough for boats, no matter how much they seem the same.

Re: Engine Installation

I removed the wheels from my trailer and tilted the tongue up as high as possible to gain enough clearance to pull/install my engine.

I built this for about $75.00 and 2 hours labor.
