i have a 1972 evinrude 9.5 that rattles at idle but runs well. i can seem to find the rattle checked everything i could think of.like i said it does not have a miss or anything and seems to go away just off idle.
Just a thought, but try letting it idle and while it is rattling pull the starter rope out a little and listen for a change in sound. I had a rattle in mine at idle and it was the rope starter assembly.
good idea i will try that.i dont think its anything to worry about like an internal problem because i idled it up and down the river about a 3-4 hour ride and opened it up for about a half hour at WOT with no problems.this is my first time out in the boat.i have been though everything on the engine except the internals of the powerhead
