I have a 2002 50 HP Mercury outboard. It is not peeing. I took it to the dealer and they said it had bees up inside of it and that is why it was not peeing. They charged me 65 dollars and said it was fixed. Unfortunately, I never checked it out when I brought it home and it has sit for about 10 weeks now. Today, I went out and started it up, and it still is not peeing. There are no signs of bees around it, and just to make sure, I sprayed a can of air inside of the peehole. But it still does not work. Is it possible they did not fix it, or could there be something else wrong with it? If so what could it be? Any suggestions???? I really don't want to take it back to them, but I will if I have to.

Re: Engine not peeing

sounds to me like it may be a worn out impeller,
when was the last time the impeller was changed?
has the boat over heated yet?
if its a 2002 motor im sure the impeller needs changing by now anyways, its not a hard job to do yourself if your handy with wrenches and ratchets, get a mercury repair manual and its pretty step by step instructions on how to replace the impeller.
mike
BEES? THATS A NEW ONE!

Re: Engine not peeing

Open up the cover and look for where the rubber hose going to the "pee hole" connects to the engine. Try disconnecting the rubber hose at the engine and then start her up. It won't hurt anything to run it like that for a while, and if water comes out of the engine where the hose connects, then either they may not have fixed it, or bugs may have already clogged it up again.

If I don't use my motor for more than 2 weeks in the summer, mud daubbers ALWAYS clog the hole, and often I have to remove the hose and the fitting where it passes through the motor cover and blow it out with compressed air or even soak it for a while to soften up their nests. They can be very hard to get out sometimes. When I remember, I'll put a small piece of tape over the hole to keep them out.

On the other hand, if no water (or a small trickle) comes out of the engine hole when you remove the rubber hose, then you should probably look at your impellar.

I always put a piece of electric tape over the tell-tale and the exhuast relief ports when I park my boat to keep the varmints out.
